Seve Trophy to alternate with strokeplay event

BALTRAY, Ireland (Reuters) - The Seve Trophy match between teams from Britain and Ireland and continental Europe is to alternate with a 72-hole strokeplay event in a revamped schedule announced by the European Tour Thursday.

The Vivendi Trophy with Seve Ballesteros will be held at St Nom la Breteche, Versailles, from September 24-27, replacing the Canal Plus Open.

Dane Thomas Bjorn will lead the Europeans with Irishman Paul McGinley skippering the Britain and Ireland team.

The team event will take place again in 2011 but the Vivendi Celebrity Trophy, a strokeplay event with a pro-am format, will be played in 2010 and 2012.

Another alteration on the European Tour schedule switches the Volvo World Match Play tournament from September 24-27 to October 29 to November 1.

The Austrian Open has been moved to September 17-20 following the cancellation of the British Masters, which was due to be held then, meaning the Tour now has a vacant week from June 11-14.
